About the author
Darren Valsler
The stories of ordinary people deserve to be remembered.

Darren Valsler is a British author and former Royal Navy serviceman whose writing explores ordinary lives caught up in extraordinary events.
Nobby’s War grew from the wartime service of his grandfather, Norbert Whitehead Hoysted. Naval records, family memories and photographs helped turn a personal history into a story that could be shared with future generations.
His historical novels are meticulously researched, with close attention to the events, places, equipment and everyday realities of the periods they portray. Where characters and personal experiences are imagined, they are grounded in historical evidence, with the aim of making each story as historically accurate as possible.
His Ordinary Men at War collection explores the lives of ordinary men and women caught up in conflict: at sea, in the air, on the battlefield and at home. Friendship, family and the demands of wartime life remain at the heart of these stories.
Future books will also follow women who fought their own wars on the home front—through wartime work, public service and the daily struggle to keep families and communities together.
In Just a Normal Bloke: A Generation X Memoir, Darren turns to his own life, preserving his memories so they can be passed down through his children to generations to come.
