Nobby’s War
A sailor’s journey through the Second World War.
Norbert “Nobby” Hoysted leaves his life as a council clerk and joins the Royal Navy alongside his friend George. Training, separation and the demands of service change both men’s lives.
Drawn into Combined Operations, Nobby learns the dangerous work of landing craft. His journey takes him through Scotland, Madagascar, India and Burma, before the Channel crossings and the shattered harbour of Hamburg.
Inspired by the wartime service of Darren’s grandfather, Nobby’s War draws on naval records, family memories and historical research to bring one ordinary sailor’s experience to life.
Read the journey in two volumes, or together in the Complete Edition.
